Dr. Paul Mason

Dr. Paul Mason (DVA) is a comic book illustrator, writer, and lecturer/course convener in art direction, animation pre-production, visual storytelling and comics at the Griffith Film School, Griffith University QLD.

He is the illustrator of KID PHANTOM; an Australia-wide newsstand comic book series for Frew Publications, featuring an all-ages take on the childhood of the classic comic strip character, The Phantom. The series is written by Andrew Constant and edited by Glenn Ford.

He is also penciller and inker on the upcoming ELDRITCH KID: BONE WAR graphic novel, written by Christian Read, coloured by Justin Randall, and lettered and edited by Wolfgang Bylsma.

Paul’s first serious foray into comics was with the series THE SOLDIER LEGACY; an Australian action-adventure comic book series published by Black HouseComics, which at one time featured on TV as part of Youi Insurance commercial campaign in 2011/2012. His work has appeared in a number of comic book series, anthologies and magazines such as Mania Magazine, Dark Detective: Sherlock Holmes with writer Christopher Sequeira, Oi Oi Oi, Australia!, upcoming work for Job Dun: Fat Assassin, XCT and overseas publications such as The New Adventures of the Human Fly, and San Diego Comic-Con Magazine.

Outside of drawing, academics and teaching, Paul studies martial arts, is a 4th degree black belt in ITF Taekwon-do, and has competed, assistant coached, and won medals in multiple World Championships for sparring. Sometimes, he daydreams about sleep.
